Anger
Anger is an emotion
that God has given you: So...Is anger a sin ?
God tells us in Ephesians
4:26; "Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your
wrath:"
God is saying that anger is an emotion that I have given you. When
God tells us to "sin not" He means that we are to keep our anger under control. It is an
emotion and you must control your emotions. "Let not" your emotions control you. A weak
person allows their emotions to control them.
Your anger may turn to
bitterness, which will continue for long periods of time. This will distort future
behavior and action.
Self-Control is necessary for the angry person. The
loss of control may cause your anger to increase. Be careful, anger out of control will be
dangerous and threatening. Reaction to your anger may drive people away from you and will
be damaging to you and your future. Maturing in your Loving Savior will go a long way in
self-control.
Open your heart and mind to the ways of Christ Jesus in
your effort to be angry and "sin not." Romans 12:17 tells us; "Recompense to no man
evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men." There is the story of
the little girl involved in a confrontation with her brother. After he cooled down a bit,
the little girl drew an imaginary line between them. She then invited her brother to step
across the line – he did. She put her arms around him and said, "Now we are both on the
same side.
I Peter 5:8 Tells us; "Be sober, be vigilant; because your
adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:"
The devil’s attack on your weakness will devour you in your frustration and anger.
Proverbs 19:11 says; "The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory
to pass over a transgression."
The person who is prone to out-bursts of
anger, temper tantrums, verbal and or physical hostility, may be helped through the
changing of his or her thoughts.
- Thoughts are voluntary.
Your thoughts are brought about by your own free will. Your thoughts are controlled by
what you choose to think.
- Thoughts control feelings. Feelings are involuntary and
are the result of your thought process.
- The action brought about by your feelings
is your behavior.
- Therefore if your thoughts are positive, wholesome and hopeful –
your behavior will be positive, wholesome and hopeful.
Philippians 4:5-8;
"Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing
; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made
known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your
hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure,
whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any
virtue, and if there be any praise, THINK ON THESE THINGS."
